Generative-AI based Agents to Revolutionise Medical Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer
funded under the 2025 EIC Pathfinder Challenges call
about
The EIC Pathfinder Challenge portfolio “Generative-AI based Agents to Revolutionise Medical Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer”, funded under the 2025 EIC Pathfinder Challenges call, is one of the EIC’s challenge-based portfolios, where projects are grouped around a common technological and societal objective and are expected to collaborate, exchange knowledge and contribute to a shared portfolio strategy.
the challenge
The central challenge is that cancer diagnosis and treatment still rely on fragmented information from different data sources, while clinicians need to make complex decisions based on imaging, pathology, molecular data and patient history together.
the aim
The overall aim of the portfolio is to develop interactive generative-AI-based autonomous agents, or combinations of agents, that can support clinicians across the cancer care pathway. The Challenge focuses on integrating and interpreting multidimensional medical imaging and health data and on developing novel approaches that can provide clinicians with a more holistic, end-to-end view of patient care.
Types of cancer covered by the portfolio
The projects cover a range of cancer types and clinical applications, including lung cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, ovarian cancer and glioma, as well as more general cancer diagnostics and treatment support. What connects them is the use of multimodal data, generative AI, agentic systems, digital twins and explainable clinical decision support.
